Brown Bear
Lord of the Klekovača forests — the largest land carnivore in Europe.
With a powerful, massive body and limbs, a large head, small ears and a short tail, the bear is the largest of all land carnivores. Its body is covered in dense fur and underfur whose colour ranges from pure white, pale or cream to black-and-white, jet black or brown.
Bears move differently from other beasts: they can stand and walk on two legs, holding that posture for some time, yet their great weight keeps them mostly on all fours, the whole sole of the foot planted on the ground. At a run they reach 50 km/h. In every species the male is larger than the female. In the wild they are thought to live between 25 and 40 years. Bears live largely alone, apart from a mother with her cubs and pairs during the mating season.
On Klekovača the bear is hunted from high seats beside baiting sites, in the heart of vast conifer stands — the finest trophy game of our hunting ground.
